Creating Photographs With Meaning
I don't photograph a place simply to document what it looks like. After more than two decades of photographing landscapes throughout the United States and around the world, I've learned that the most memorable photographs often come from being there at the right moment—when the light, weather, atmosphere, and composition come together.
Many of the places I photograph are locations I've returned to repeatedly, waiting for conditions that reveal something more than an ordinary view. The resulting photograph is intended to convey what it felt like to experience that place, not simply what it looked like.
